Laticia spent 19 years in Iowa's foster care system. Laticia has dedicated her life to overcoming the statistics and stereotypes placed on foster kids. She was born to two teenage parents who struggled with abuse and addiction, which landed her in the system at an early age. She had to grow up quickly in order to raise her siblings at only six years old. Laticia has lived in eighteen different placements and has gone to fourteen different schools. She defeated the odds by graduating early and going on independent living at seventeen. She is now attending the University of Northern Iowa working towards her degree in Social Work with a double minor in Business and Communications. Her future goals include becoming a foster parent, going into policy writing, expanding her state's advocating program, and opening her own transition house for youth aging out of care. Laticia is helpful, passionate, resilient and a foster youth.
